The filler made my nose a little bigger, but it was worth it to see what it looked like straight.

Before I committed to getting a real rhinoplasty (which I got a few years later; read that post here), I wanted to make sure that changing the shape of my nose really would make me happy. (Spoiler alert: It did.)

My Nose

I never liked how rounded the tip of my nose was, or the slight bump on the bridge of my nose.

I knew filler couldn’t do anything about the rounded tip, but adding filler above and below the bump could make my profile a much smoother line.

The Process

I went to a facial plastic surgeon for this procedure. You should find someone who has a lot of experience in what the ideal nose looks like and what nose filler can reasonably accomplish as well as plenty of experience injecting filler.

Fillers work especially well for your nose, because it doesn’t move much, so you don’t really need to worry about migration. A long-lasting filler is a good choice. My doctor used Juvederm Voluma, which is supposed to last eighteen months to two years.

The injections barely hurt (1/10) because they numb the area first with lidocaine. I had to sit there about thirty minutes for the lidocaine to work, and then the injections themselves took about five minutes.

The surgeon filled in the “gaps” above and below the bump on the bridge of my nose. And I wasn’t expecting this, but he also put a little filler on the very tip of my nose, too, to make it a little pointier.

I was so pleased with the results that it gave me complete confidence that I would be happy with a real rhinoplasty. Which I got, a few years later!

In summary, for someone with the “right” kind of nose for this procedure (either wanting to make your nose bigger in general, or like mine, which had a bump but wasn’t too big originally), I think this is a great test run for a surgical rhinoplasty.

Remember that filler can only add mass, so someone with a larger nose probably wouldn’t like the look of filler, even if it made their profile straighter. Plus my other concern, about the roundness of the tip, can’t be completely fixed with filler, either.

Cost: One syringe of Juvederm Voluma cost me $800 (this was in 2017).

Longevity: The filler lasted about eighteen months for me.

Worth it? If you’re like me and needed to know if a real rhinoplasty would make you happy, try filler first. If you’re already certain, skip the filler and use the money to save for a real rhinoplasty.
